What is non-surgical hair restoration with PRP?

PRP non-surgical hair restoration (also known as the PRP hair restoration) in our Dallas and Southlake clinics consists of application of your own Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) topically and by injection into the area of thinning hair to stimulate your dormant hair follicles into new hair growth and to improve the heath and texture of your existing hairs.

How does the PRP treatment work for non-surgical hair regeneration?

Highly concentrated plasma contains platelets that release growth factors; these growth factors have been shown to generate new hair and improve the density and health of your existing hair. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) derived from your blood has minimum of eight growth factors and the ability to initiate stem cell migration to the area where PRP is applied. For non-surgical hair restoration treatments in Dallas and Southlake we add medications and supplements to your PRP to specifically stimulate and nourish scalp and follicles for hair growth.

What happens during my non-surgical hair regeneration treatment with PRP in Dallas and Southlake?

For your non-surgical hair regeneration treatment with PRP in Dallas and Southlake, we ask you to arrive about 45 minutes before your appointment. Your PRP trained nurse will draw your blood, this step is similar to a routine blood draw at your family doctor’s office. She will then place your blood in a FDA approved centrifuge to separate your platelets from red and white blood cells. She will add the medications and supplements necessary for maximum hair follicle stimulation to your PRP. A topical anesthetic is applied to your scalp, and your PRP is injected into the areas of thinning hair. For those of you with areas of bare scalp in between thinning hair, a “Micropen” treatment is done over these areas and some of your PRP is applied topically over the Micropen treated area.

How long does it take for a single treatment?

Your PRP hair regeneration treatment in our Dallas and Southlake clinics takes about an hour. This includes your blood draw and preparation of your PRP in our offices.

Is there any discomfort and downtime with this treatment?

We use local anesthetic; a topical crème or spray is applied to the scalp before starting the treatment and we add a small amount of local anesthetic to the PRP solution before your injection treatment which further numbs the treated area. The goal is to make your non-surgical hair regeneration treatment in Dallas and Southlake very comfortable. There is minimal tenderness and mild swelling in the injection sites for 3-5 days following your non-surgical hair restoration treatment. You can resume your normal daily activities within hours after your hair restoration treatment.

What results should I expect from my PRP non-surgical hair regeneration treatment in Dallas and Southlake?

As a stand alone treatment, PRP has been shown to:

  • Induce new hair regeneration in both male and female pattern hair loss
  • Decelerate hair loss in men and women with male and female pattern hair loss
  • Make finer hairs thicker in men and women with fine, thinning hair
  • Increase the density and strength of hairs in men and women predisposed to hereditary hair loss

For your non-surgical hair regeneration treatments in our Dallas and Southlake offices, we want to make sure you get the best possible results. We use the PRP systems extensively tested and used for hair regeneration by leading hair restoration specialists, we add Acell extra cellular matrix for maximum hair regeneration results and we add  (proprietary) nutrients and supplements to nourish your hair follicles for healthier, denser and stronger hairs

How many treatments will I need for hair restoration?

We recommend two to three treatments, four weeks apart for best results for most people with thinning hair. Unfortunately we cannot change your genetic predisposition to hair loss which means you will need a treatment in 12 to 24 months following your initial non-surgical hair regeneration treatment and after that periodically to maintain your hair. The frequency of your non-surgical hair regeneration after the initial treatment will also depend on your genetic rate of hair loss and your hair regeneration goals.

How soon will I see results from my PRP treatment?

Although you will start to see improvement in hair texture, thickness of hair shaft and growth of new hairs in the treated area within two weeks after treatment, it typically takes three to six months from your initial treatment to see measurable results.

Does PRP treatment need to be combined with other hair loss treatments?

Although PRP treatment alone regenerates hair and does not need to be combined with adjunctive treatments (like topical minoxidil, oral propecia etc),  we suggest that you use other adjunctive treatments with your PRP hair loss treatments such as topical minoxidil, oral propecia etc. to prolong the results of PRP for hair regeneration. Use of adjunctive treatments and of additional PRP treatment frequency will also depend on your hair treatment goals.
